On September 7-8th, 2011 Director for regional development, Partner of VEGAS LEX and Maxim Grigoriev, Head of the Krasnodar office, took part in Competition Day in Russia in Rostov-on-Don, which attracted Heads of the departments on Protection of Competition of the Antimonopoly Services from 12 countries, including USA, Italy, Spain, Turkey, India and China.

The main objectives of the event were: to foster favorable competitive environment for business development and investment activities in the country, as well as to increase Russia’s prestige on the international level.

The representatives of VEGAS LEX noted the high level of the report, delivered by the Head of FAS Russia Igor Artemyev, during the plenary session, which became the central event of the first day. The report contained the information on the third antimonopoly package of amendments, which had been approved by the Presidium of the Russian Federation and would be discussed in the State Duma. Particular emphasis was placed on the need to improve the legislation to strengthen antimonopoly control over the state authorities, to reduce administrative burdens for the honest market players, to create effective mechanisms for preventing cartel activities and to encourage openness in the process of state procurement and the distribution of the state property and natural resources.

Within the business program, VEGAS LEX partner and Maxim Grigoriev participated in the seminars on antimonopoly control in the electric and power markets and on competition in the pharmaceutical market. They took part in the meeting of the board of the FAS of Russia with the representatives of all regional offices of the agency. The agency board summed up the results of the first half of the year and discussed the future plans of the territorial bodies of the UFAS of Russia.

VEGAS LEX is actively cooperating with the Federal Antimonopoly Service of the Russian Federation and is a member of the Expert Council of the FAS of Russia on competition promotion in the social and healthcare sectors.
