On September 25, 2014, the VEGAS LEX law firm, the VEB Innovations Fund and the Innovation and R&D Directors Club (IR&D club), organized a roundtable conference, Corporation – Startup: Reaching for Mutually Beneficial Cooperation. The event was supported by Russian Venture Company.

The meeting was aimed at raising corporate executives’ awareness of various open innovation instruments and ways to cooperate with technology startups.

The participants discussed recommendations for corporations on how to accelerate negotiations with investors; various aspects of legalizing intellectual property rights and investor protection mechanisms, the key points of shareholder agreements and the choice of prevailing law. The discussion covered funding options for innovation-based development of corporations and how this choice can influence their relations with startups. The participants also discussed the involvement of Western strategic investors in Russian technology startups using the AIRBUS aerospace corporation as an example.

The VEGAS LEX Technology and Investment Group participated in the event, including the group’s head, Alexandra Vasukhnova, and lawyer Anton Lavrentiev, as well as Alexander Garmaev, Senior Associate at VL Corporate Practice. Other guest speakers included Anna Nenakhova, member of the VEB Innovations Fund board, and Yulia Leonova, managing partner of Meridian Capital.

The event was attended by representatives of major Russian corporations, venture funds, experts in innovation and venture projects from the Skolkovo Foundation, the Higher School of Economics National Research University, Microsoft, SAP, RTI Group and others.
