The event, a private roundtable, took place on December 26 at VEGAS LEX’s office and focused on the most significant changes in taxation that are likely to affect companies’ operation during the next year.

Yury Ivanov, head of VL Tax Practice, spoke about the new procedure for opening criminal cases on tax evasion charges, which can now be initiated on a wider range of grounds, about the new possibilities that law enforcement and tax authorities can use, and about ways to avoid prosecution and reduce tax-related risks.

Tax Practice Associate Nikolai Rudomanov discussed business security in light of the beneficial owner information disclosure requirements. He proposed ways to strengthen the tax security of subsidiaries of international companies and the property security of the business owners, such as appropriate behaviors, risk analysis, etc.

The event was attended by Nadezhda Kuzmina, head of analysis at the Finance Ministry’s Tax and Customs Tariff Policy Department, and Konstantin Novosyolov, deputy head of the Federal Tax Service’s Control Department, as special guest speakers.

Ms. Kuzmina described the procedure for notifying the tax ministry about subsidiaries of international companies; about taxes levied on foreign companies that are controlled by tax residents of Russia; about the criteria for obtaining a tax resident status in Russia or qualifying as a company controlled by tax residents; and about changes planned for 2015.

Mr. Novosyolov gave detailed information about tax monitoring, about regulated information sharing with foreign countries and about the Federal Tax Service’s plans for 2015.

The event was attended by representatives of leading Russian and foreign companies including Gazprombank-Invest, Severstal, State Transport Leasing Company (GTLK), Euroset, Holcim (Rus) CM, KsantaMedica, BEL Development, Real Estate Investment Management, Bunge CIS, Unity Re and others.
