Cross-border litigation: important repercussions of Russian Higher Courts merger

On September 18, 2015, the VEGAS LEX law firm took part in the Seventh Annual Conference on the Resolution of CIS-Related Business Disputes, which took place in Moscow with the official support of the Russian National Committee of International Chamber of Commerce – World Business Organization (ICC Russia), ABA Section of International Law.

Head of Litigation practice Kirill Trukhanov spoke at the session, The Russian Court System: Hot Topics and Trends. His report, Disputes with a foreign element: separation in jurisdiction and other relevant issues after the merger of Higher Courts, focused on the issues of jurisdiction of cases on the recognition and enforcement of international arbitral awards and foreign judgments. The expert also elaborated on aspects of proper notification of Russian defendants on their hearings at international commercial arbitration and foreign court.

The participants also discussed trends across litigation practice in the Russian courts in various areas affecting business in Russia, measures to increase the efficiency of the courts in Russia, enhancing and maintaining transparency in the judicial system, and integration of the systems of online information on the commercial courts and courts of general jurisdiction.*

The event was attended by leading Russian and international experts in the field.
